So what are they shopping for? The most popular purchases are as follows:

1. Focus on your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)

Identify your USP and focus on communicating it with your target audience. It’s the first step in building a solid brand strategy that can help differentiate you from the competition.

If you can do this, you’ll be able to give your prospects a reason to buy a product from you instead of someone else.

One way to implement this strategy is to develop a story about what makes your business unique. It can even be your brand philosophy or goal.

For example, if you’re a small business owner and you’re making and selling handmade products, that can be the main force that drives traffic to your website.

You can do this by developing content that communicates the following:

  • You’re contributing to a new economic model
  • Products made with passion and not mass produced
  • (Maybe you’re using) recycled material
  • Business is driven by love and not capitalism

If you look at the research, you’ll see that this strategy really works in today’s crowded marketplace.

2. Develop Unique Product Content

If you consistently generate unique product content, you can boost your chances of standing out from the competition. Further, it will also help you utilize SEO effectively to drive traffic to your website.

If you have been in business for a while and haven’t used this strategy, go back and update the content on your site.

Keep your unique product descriptions under 250 words and make sure that the titles are as broad as possible. Further, try to use synonyms in the body text.

3. Keep it User-Friendly with Categories that are Easy to Follow

Don’t make it difficult for your customers to find products on your website. Make it as simple as possible to navigate through your online store.

If you want to improve your chances of conversion, you’ll have to consistently make it easy to do the following:

  • Search for products through logical labels
  • Parent categories
  • Filters

If these methods aren’t followed, your customers can easily get lost within your website and leave as a result of the ensuing frustration. As a rule of thumb, don’t expect your target audience to be as tech-savvy as you are.

4. Wow them with Product Images

Whatever you can’t communicate with words can be done with quality images. Sometimes all you need is a great picture to make a sale, so make sure that all your images are stunning.

An added benefit of images is the fact that they can be easily shared on social platforms like Pinterest and Facebook.

Nothing beats free promotion, so make it easy for your customers to share your product images.

Images also boost your SEO strategies, so I can’t stress enough that it’s an import part of what leads to a conversion.

5. Always have a Clear Call To Action (CTA)

Make your website’s highly responsive with clear CTAs whenever it’s appropriate. Further, keeps your CTAs short and simple with a single message to encourage a purchase.

Something as simple as “buy now” is highly effective in adding a sense of urgency to make a purchase. But you can also take it a step further and have a countdown of the stock that’s available.

If you’ve bought a plane ticket from Expedia, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

6. Embrace Customer Reviews

TRUST

Don’t be afraid of customer reviews, customer reviews can be what boosts your conversion rate. Let’s face it, consumers have got used to using leading e-commerce platforms like Amazon. So checking out customer reviews before making purchase decisions has become the norm.

Industry research confirms this as 61% of consumers read reviews before buying something online. As a result, it has become an essential part of e-commerce.

The added bonus is the fact that top reviews can also boost your SEO with original content.

7. Blog! Blog! Blog!

Blogging is crucial to show up on the first page of search results and enhance engagement. Further, 33% of millennials depend on blogs to make their purchase decisions, so you really can’t afford to neglect this growing segment.

So implementing a successful e-commerce strategy will take some work and it has to be ongoing. If you practice these 7 strategies, you can watch your traffic not only grow, but also your sales figures through brand engagement.
